True Love Comes From Within

By

True Love

When I think of February, I think about love– and the fact that it is also my son’s and my birthday, and National Heart Health Month!

In my opinion, true love is something that unfortunately many people aren’t experiencing lately.  There are so many distractions and expectations, obligations and tasks to tend to every day. With everything going on in your life, do you pause, take in some deep breaths and think about what true love means to you?

True love comes from within. You need to love yourself first in order to give love to others. When was the last time you looked in the mirror and told yourself, “I love you” or “I love ____ about you”? In our busy lives, sometimes we forget to love ourselves, to practice self care and be kind to ourselves.

I encourage you to take good care of your mind, your body, and your spirit. You can begin that process by being very mindful of the thoughts you think, the feelings you feel and the actions you take or do not take. Do your body a favor by eating small nutritious meals and snacks throughout the day and drinking lots of water. Participate in a fun physical activity to get your body moving. Nurture your spirit, whether you believe in a higher power or not. Do something that enriches and fulfills your soul.

Start each day by acknowledging something you like about yourself.  As you go about your daily activities, tell those you love and care about that you love them. Love comes in all sizes and shapes. When you are out and about, you may meet some people that you do not know– say something nice to them! Give them a compliment! Or simply say, “Have a nice day!” You may have made their day. There are many people out there that live by themselves and are not in contact with loved ones or who may have lost loved ones.  I encourage you to perform random acts of kindness everyday.

Come from your heart in all relationships, whether close or not. When you fill your heart with love, you have more love to give.

I want to wish you a happy Valentine’s Day and National Heart Health Month! Wishing you all the best!
