Stressed During The Holidays?

By
holidays, holiday stress, tips for holidaysWith all the hustle and bustle of the upcoming holidays, do you find yourself instead of enjoying the holiday season, stressing out because you need to find the “perfect gifts” or you are spending more than you need to and going into debt? Sometimes we run on empty– going through the day forgetting to nourish our bodies, forgetting to drink water. We may be walking in shoes that are not supportive and by the time we get home- we are exhausted and our feet are killing us! We also might be carrying heavy packages, lifting incorrectly– risking injuring ourselves. This is also a season of holiday gatherings and parties. It is the time of year when many of us over-indulge and wonder why we don’t feel quite right.

I can speak from experience. Back in the day, when my kids were little, I was working full time and then going straight to the mall to shop. I’d have to hide the presents and after the kids were asleep- stay up late wrapping them. Many times I would forget to eat regularly, I’d be carrying heavy packages and hurting my back and, many times, I was not wearing the right shoes- so my feet were bothering me.
Here are some tips on how to de-stress from the holidays!
1) Be sure to nourish and hydrate your body throughout the day; always having healthy snacks and water with you.
2) Wear sensible, supportive shoes (ie, athletic shoes).
3) Make several trips to your car instead of trying to carry everything at once. It may take you a little more time but it will prevent injuries!
4) If you need to hide the presents, find a way to do it without compromising your sleep. See if someone can watch the kids or send the kids to a friend’s house or ask a friend if you can go to their house to do the wrapping.
These are just some simple suggestions so that by the time you actually celebrate the holidays you can genuinely enjoy them and the people you are with!
