Family Dynamics During the Holidays!By
Leading up to the holidays brings a lot of joy, but also a lot of stress at times. Those of us who host holiday gatherings want everything to be perfect and everyone to be happy. That is virtually impossible! Many times we plan for a certain amount of guests that say they are attending, but when the day arrives… they are unable to make it. This can bring a lot of disappointment and hurt. We have to realize that things really do come up and we should not take it personally.
This has happened to me on a few occasions and I have to admit that I was disappointed, but I got over it. We enjoyed the time and the food with whomever was there. As a mom, I sometimes have to put my own feelings aside and just let everyone be. When my kids were little, they knew that on certain holidays, we were going to Mama and Papa’s house in Los Angeles. It was quite an excursion- getting the kids ready and the long drive through traffic. Even though those times were stressful, they were also times of memories that will be cherished by all of us forever.
The holidays may be the only times that some family members get to see each other. You never know what life will bring. Every day is precious. In my humble opinion, getting together throughout the holidays should be cherished moments to treasure. I encourage each and everyone of you to reach out to family, friends, and strangers and spend time with them, giving of yourself and holding every moment dear now and throughout the entire year!
